Richard Dubras is a highly experienced and dedicated clinician known for his unwavering commitment to supporting individuals, families, and communities. With a dynamic and energetic approach and more than 2 decades of clinical experience, Rick brings a wealth of expertise and compassion to his work with children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families.
Rick is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and holds a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia and a Master’s of Science in Health Psychology and Mental Performance from the University of Bristol. He has held many positions within leadership and management in various health care, mental health and addiction service.
Rick is dedicated to forming strong therapeutic connections with his clients, enhancing their comfort and commitment to the therapeutic process. With insight, compassion, humor, and exceptional clinical skills, he guides clients through their unique life experiences, helping them find greater meaning and well-being. He believes in the crucial role of parents and caregivers in understanding and supporting their loved ones' emotions and behaviors, and he is passionate about supporting parents in connecting with their children and being involved in the therapeutic process.
Rick is known for his remarkable ability to connect with people of all ages, providing a safe and open environment where clients feel supported and understood. He challenges individual and relationship dynamics that may be hindering his clients' well-being. Rick’s approach is deeply rooted in attachment theory and an advanced understanding of emotion, relationship dynamics and systemic factors. Richard has specialized training in cognitive-behavioral therapy, client-centered therapy, and emotion focused family and couples therapy.
Rick works with children, adolescents, adults, and couples, offering counselling to assist with all areas of mental health and well-being, as well as to develop connected and healthy relationships. He has had tremendous success in helping clients manage depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, self-harming behaviors, disordered eating, and challenging relationship dynamics and provides effective trauma treatment and has assisted many clients in overcoming traumatic events, helping them to move forward in ways they previously thought impossible. He has a strong belief in community and has supported countless at-risk families and youth with the skills they need to thrive.
Richard views his work as a privilege and is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of his clients and their families. He is currently welcoming new clients to his practice, where his compassion, insight, and exceptional clinical skills continue to foster meaningful change and growth.
