Barb is a wonderfully skilled therapist who brings a wealth of experience to her work with children, adolescents, adults, and families. She deeply values her therapeutic relationships with clients as they work towards a greater level of understanding and well-being within themselves and their relationships. Barb strives to create a process in which clients feel supported, understood, and validated. She is known for her ability to create an atmosphere of compassion and safety, while bringing clinical expertise to assist clients to make positive changes.

Barb sees counselling as an opportunity to invest in oneself, and as a journey towards personal growth, expanding on one’s strengths and creating a more compassionate self. Barb feels honoured to be a supportive part of client’s journey, and to offer insight and direction along the path to progress.

Barb has extensive experience in assisting clients with anxiety, depression, self-harm, and emotional dysregulation. She is experienced in the treatment of disordered eating - including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, emotional eating and body image issues. In addition to her broad clinical experience she is also a highly specialized trauma therapist. She has assisted many clients to heal their experience of trauma including physical, emotional and sexual abuse. She assists clients in life transitions, relationship distress and building on their strengths and sense of self worth. Barb also has extensive experience with support group therapy working with woman through their journey with life threatening illnesses.

Barb has a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and is a registered member with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. She is also registered with the Crime Victims Assistance Program (CVAP). Barb has extensive specialized training with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Family System, Lifespan Integration, Clinical Hypnosis, and Emotion Freedom Technique and has completed several levels of Somatic Experiencing.

Barb brings a strong commitment to community support and has volunteered at several organizations that assist children and youth to gain confidence, trust, coping strategies, and increased resiliency by therapeutic involvement with animals. She is also involved with programs supporting children and youth have witnessed violence and abuse.

Barb is pleased to be accepting new families, children, adolescents and adult clients at Alison Bell and Associates Counselling Group.
