Elspeth Humphreys, RCC, RSW
Elspeth Humphreys is a warm, engaging therapist who brings a high level of skill and deep compassion to her counselling work with clients. Elspeth is known for her deep capacity to connect with clients of all ages and to allow clients to feel deeply understood and supported. She strives to bring understanding of underlying issues that are contributing to client’s struggles and to support clients to make meaningful change within themselves, within their relationships, and within their families. Elspeth has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Victoria. Elspeth is both a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Registered Social Worker in British Columbia.
Elspeth has over two decades of experience working with clients in community mental health agencies and has received many awards and recognitions for her outstanding commitment to the community, clients, and colleagues. Her clinical work has focused on supporting individuals and families struggling in all areas of mental health and well-being. For the last 15 years Elspeth has focused her clinical work on developing a high level of competence and skill in supporting individuals who struggle with body image issues, disordered eating and eating disorders; including binge eating disorder, orthorexia, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervous. Elspeth supports adolescents, adults and families who are struggling with the impact of eating disorders and is currently the coordinator for a large regional eating disorder program and actively involved in the eating disorder treatment community.
Elspeth is a certified clinician in Emotion Focused Family Therapy and believes that parents are the best asset in supporting their loved ones to make change, regulate their emotions and support new behaviours. Elspeth has also completed an addictions fellowship at the BC Centre on Substance Use. This unique training opportunity has provided Elspeth with an overview of many of the addiction services in the province as well as an exceptional skill set to support individuals and families struggling with drug or alcohol dependence.
Elspeth works with clients of all ages and has specific training in Mindfulness, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Emotion Focused Family Therapy. She supports clients of all ages and in all areas of mental health and adjustment including, anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, life transitions, trauma, relationship distress, family, and individual issues. Elspeth’s connection with clients is built on an unwavering belief in families and the importance of understanding the emotions that underlie behaviours. Elspeth invites clients into a safe space in which they can navigate their thoughts, underlying feelings and relationship patterns and to make desired changes.
