When is group counselling recommended?

Group counselling is recommended when people are struggling with behavioural issues and/or to give people the opportunity to gain additional support outside of individual therapy–though they’re often used together. In fact, if one type of therapy has stalled, joining group counselling may help to fuel additional insights and get things moving forward again.
Group counselling is recommended for issues involving:
-
Eating disorders
-
Anxiety and panic disorders
-
Social phobias
-
Substance abuse
-
Depression
-
Anger management
-
OCD, Bipolar disorder
-
Loss
-
Others
Group therapy in Surrey is offered to individuals, couples, families and parents and involves weekly meetings with one or more trained therapists guiding the group. It might seem intimidating initially because some people feel more vulnerable in a group at first. But the benefits of speaking with, and listening to others, in this setting provides participants with additional, valuable benefits.
Benefits of group therapy
-
Gain the support of people with similar experiences
-
Gain exposure to different perspectives and diversity of experiences
-
Gain the chance to learn more about yourself through this process
-
Gain additional strategies for coping and overcoming challenges
-
Take advantage of feelings of accountability and be incentivized to reach personal goals
Group therapy is confidential though it works on the honour system for participants. Members are all in similar situations and benefit most from open and honest communication. How much, and what you share, is entirely up to you.
A vital benefit of group counselling is finding out you are not alone. You don’t have to suffer in isolation.
Group therapy is a great way to complement individual, couples, or family therapy.
